Ladies, sign up to Sweat in the City

9th September 2008 Print
Ladies, sign up to Sweat in the City The Fitness Industry Association (FIA) and the Women’s Sport and Fitness Foundation (WSFF) have teamed up to launch Sweat in the City (SITC), to inspire women from across the Capital to get active. Working with the fitness industry, this innovative project has been designed to motivate young women to don their trainers and realise the benefits of exercise.

Jessica Taylor, singer and glamorous wife of Kevin Pieterson, is the celebrity ambassador for Sweat In The City. Jessica says: “Exercise can be daunting, especially if you haven’t done any for a while. So it’s great to have a scheme like Sweat In The City to help make it more social and less scary. The benefits of being active both physically and in terms of self-esteem are just fantastic.”

Across London, SITC will link 16 – 24 year old women with 100 FIA member health clubs and leisure centres to offer a 12 week (October – December 2008) introduction to exercise. Response from FIA members has been huge so far, though there are still a few spaces for clubs keen to get involved.

Participating centres need to offer around 15-30 memberships for the 12 week period. In return, clubs and centres will receive a full support package including financial assistance and training plus the chance to:

- Help the local community become more active
- Raise the profile of their club
- Increase their adult membership

For more information on SITC, including how to get involved, go to Sweatinthecity.co.uk and register your interest.
