Students celebrate National School Sport Week

Students celebrate National School Sport Week Millions of school students across the country took part in a host of special sports events last week, to help celebrate this year’s National School Sport Week. Over 10,400 schools across Britain participated in Lloyds TSB National School Sport Week, which ran from 29 June to 3 July 2009.

Its aim was to profile school sport and celebrate all that has been achieved in PE and school sport over the past year, and demonstrate that it is possible for each school-aged child across the country to do five hours of high quality PE and sport each week, both in and out of school – supporting the Government’s PE and Sport Strategy for Young People.

Throughout the week, Olympians including Jonathan Edwards, Denise Lewis, Mark Foster, Gail Emms and Jason Gardener visited events held across the country – including schools and school partnerships in Kent, London and Staffordshire. Some schools marked the week by holding special interschool sports events, and replaced classroom lessons with Olympic- themed classes.
