Brits Stuff More Than Just Turkey At Christmas

29th November 2006 Print
Brits Pile On Pounds Over Christmas A new survey has revealed that two thirds of Brits overindulge every Christmas, putting on up to a stone as a result. In a survey of 3,000 people, thirty per cent admitted they usually put on 1–2lbs, thirty-four per cent put on 3-4lbs, twenty-two per cent put on 5-6lbs whilst fourteen per cent said they put on at least half a stone! It’s no wonder that fifty-six per cent immediately regret eating so much.

The top 10 regions piling on the pounds over Christmas are:

1. Yorkshire & the Humberside
2. East Midlands
3. North West
4. London
5. South East
6. East Anglia
7. South West
8. Scotland
9. Wales
10. North East

Twelve per cent said they have overindulged so much at Christmas that they were sick, whilst thirty-seven per cent regularly suffer from a stomach complaint such as indigestion or bloating after eating their Christmas dinner. Forty-seven per cent start a new diet in January as a result and forty-two per cent embark on a new exercise regime.

The survey of 3,000 people conducted by WindSetlers found that eight per cent start getting into the festive eating spirit as early as the 1st December, whilst sixteen per cent start on 10th December. Sixty-one per cent are in the Christmas eating mode by 15th December.

Nutritionist Dr Chris Fenn said: “Christmas is the one time of year when most people overindulge and this survey reveals the extent of this excess. Of course we all want to relax and get into the Christmas spirit but eating to the point of bursting is unwise. Not only that, but some of the problems associated with over eating can cause a great deal of discomfort.”

WindSetlers gel capsules offer express relief from the discomfort of bloating and trapped wind. Priced from £1.25 for a pack of 8, they are available from supermarkets and pharmacies. Always read the label.
