Size Doesn't Matter When Women Shop

3rd January 2007 Print
Image As women around the country hit the sales, a new survey by tescodiets.com reveals that nearly 40% of women have bought clothes they knew were too small, promising themselves they would slim into them - with 70% admitting that the items are still hanging in the wardrobe unworn.

And nearly a quarter (24%) of women have bought clothes that they knew were too small because they just couldn't bear to buy the next size up.

The survey also reveals that an overwhelming 82% of us would be happier if we were thinner and that nearly a quarter of us (22%) make a promise to "start my diet tomorrow" almost every day.

Kellie Collins, tescodiets.com nutritionist says: "Buying clothes that are too small is never the answer. It's best to lose weight with healthy eating and some exercise first, then treat yourself to a spending spree as a reward for dropping the extra pounds."

According to Trinny and Susannah, some of the golden rules for sales shopping in their new book "Trinny and Susannah - The Survival Guide" are:

- Don't shop when you are really hungry.

- Do take a break for lunch

- Don't take endless items into the changing room in the wrong shapes and colours for you

- Do know the rules for dressing your body shape and which colours suit you

- Don't overspend recklessly

- Do set yourself a budget for the day and stick to it

The survey also reveals that whilst nearly all of the women questioned (98%) said it would bother them if they put on half a stone, the vast majority (70%) said they wouldn't care one bit if their partner gained half a stone.
