A healthier Christmas pudding

30th October 2007 Print
A healthier Christmas pudding Christmas is coming, and the goose is getting fat…. The old rhyme is a timely reminder, not only that the season of Christmas is approaching, but that it may be time to think about healthy Christmas alternatives. With the alarming increase of obesity, now is the time to change your cooking methods and prepare the pud that’s good for your heart, as well the heart’s delight!

To do just that, Oleifera rapeseed oil which has almost a tenth of the saturated fat of butter and an eighth of the saturated fat of suet, have launched a range of Christmas recipes that are intended to give us good health, to go with the wealth and happiness we usually wish ourselves on the 25th December.

Oleifera’s recipes for Christmas cake, Christmas pudding and Christmas mincemeat can be found on Oleifera.co.uk.

Many people are unaware that rapeseed oil is extremely versatile for cooking explains Lisa Wilson of Border Fields:

“There is a great need for people to eat more healthily, so we decided that we would help them by providing them with Christmas recipes using Rapeseed Oil. In addition to being a superb base for dressings and mayonnaise, Oleifera is also excellent for all types of baking including cakes and scones. ”

Saturated fats are associated with high cholesterol; by substituting oils and fats with a rapeseed oil you will decrease your intake of saturated fats. Rapeseed oil has the lowest saturated fat content of any edible oil. Per 100g, cold-pressed rapeseed oil has 6% saturated fat content, butter 54% and olive oils 14%. Oleifera Rapeseed Oil also has 10 times more Omega 3 content than olive oil and a higher Vitamin E content than other oils.

Oleifera Rapeseed Oil is produced by a group of Border farmers, and is available online – from Oleifera.co.uk and also selected supermarkets and delicatessens throughout the UK.
