Children were given insight into the changing history of English homes during a visit to George Wimpey South Midlands’ brand new Parklands development at Woburn Sands.

Year 1 pupils at Harlington Lower School took a ‘through the keyhole’ style tour of the sumptuous three and four bedroom showhomes – and when asked “Who would live in a house like this?” the resounding response from the five-year-olds was “Me, I would!”.

Derek Archer, Year 1 teacher at the school, explained: “The visit to Parklands was part of our Key Stage 1 project looking at different styles of houses and how they have changed over history.

“The children had already been learning about times gone by, when people would have a tin bath in front of the fire, and this was their chance to see what the most up-to-date homes look like inside.

“They were absolutely amazed by the ensuite bathrooms and, in one showhome, a bed that folded away into the wall!

“When we came back to the classroom we asked the children who would like to live in a house like that and they all put their hands up and said ‘Me, I would!’.

“Children, just like grown-ups, love to have a nose around houses and they thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We are very grateful to all the staff at George Wimpey for welcoming us into their homes.”

All four showhomes have been beautifully decorated and superbly styled by the leading housebuilder’s team of professional interior designers, with the three-bedroom ‘Exton’ characterised by cool, chic silver and grey tones, while fuchsia pink and black are used to dramatic effect in the three-storey three-bedroom ‘Gower’.

Blues and chocolate brown lend a contemporary feel to the three-storey four-bedroom ‘Kent’, while coffee and cream neutrals of the three-storey four-bedroom ‘Mortimer’ add comfort and class.

The three-storey 'Gower' design has all the latest features of a modern family home, and the children were able to see first-hand the large lounge with French doors to the rear garden, and the combined kitchen/dining room offering open-plan living space.

On the second floor they were just as impressed with the spacious master bedroom running the width of the property and having an ensuite, as well as a further bedroom and family bathroom to the first floor.

Three home designs are currently available at Parklands, with the ‘Exton’ starting from £271,995, the ‘Gower’ priced from £315,000, and the ‘Mortimer’ starting from £365,000.

Parklands is the sister development of George Wimpey’s popular Waterside development where a range of two-bedroom apartments are currently available with prices starting from £244,995. For further information, visit georgewimpey.co.uk.
