After 21 years of living in a small village just outside of Hereford, Barry (62) and Jenny Message (60) have moved from their four bedroom dormer bungalow with large garden and double garage.

The couple were conscious that their house was becoming too large to manage as some years ago Barry was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. “Although still fully active, we realised that planning for our future was essential” says Jenny. “If I was to get ill, I believe that we would have difficulties managing in later life in our current circumstances.”

Barry and Jenny started their search for a more manageable home. Barry comments: “We enjoy travelling and going on cruises and had recently visited Florida. We enjoyed the good weather and high standard of living in America and thought about buying a second home there, one which we could eventually think about retiring to.”

While in Florida, the couple bought a UK paper and read about a new development in South Buckinghamshire, Denham Garden Village. Jenny said: “It sounded just perfect as it offered everything we were looking for – a brand new home with all the mod cons in a small village setting with a real community feel.”

Jenny continues: “We also really liked the on-site leisure facilities, such as the health and leisure suite, café and village shop. Keeping active and having social interaction is very important for us as we get older. We try to swim twice a week and it is great to have a pool right on our doorstep. The location of the Village is just perfect as our family live in North London and therefore visits are easier with less travelling to do.”

Having managed the Home Care Service for Social Services before she retired, Jenny knew exactly what she was looking for in her new home. “This is the last move we are planning to make – it’s far too much upheaval! Jenny and Barry have bought a three bedroom house at Denham Garden Village, giving them plenty of room for their grandchildren to come and stay, as well as for a computer room cum study. They are also building a conservatory so they can enjoy the view of their more manageable garden.
