Persimmon to commemorate war heroes

Persimmon to commemorate war heroes Leading house builder Persimmon Homes has launched a search to find the families of those remembered on Aylesbury’s Cross of Sacrifice war memorial. Working in conjunction with Aylesbury Vale District Council, the developer has selected the surnames of four servicemen from the memorial, which honours those who perished during World War One and World War Two, to be used as street names for its new The Green residential development in Stoke Mandeville.

Now, to coincide with Remembrance Sunday this weekend, Persimmon Homes is appealing to find the families of those remembered on the cross to invite them to visit the streets which commemorate the sacrifice their relative’s made for the peace and freedom we enjoy today.

Persimmon Homes sales director, Elaine Stratford whose Aylesbury relatives have also been honoured with a road name at The Green explains: “Creating a new residential development in a historical town such as Aylesbury involves a careful combination of looking to the future without forgetting the past. My Emmett relatives both male and family fought and contributed to the war effort during World War Two and were prominent Aylesbury relatives, so I am delighted that they will be honoured with a new street name at The Green.

“The rest of the street names for The Green were selected at random from the Cross of Sacrifice and we are desperately trying to trace the families of those soldiers. We already know that one of the servicemen, Reg Foskett, had no surviving relatives, but would be extremely interested to hear what happened to the families of the other three.”

Persimmon Homes is appealing to find the relatives of the following servicemen who all died during World War 1:

* WJ Eggleton
* SS Hancock
* J Walker
