Barratt wins approval in sought-after Downley Village

31st January 2008 Print
Barratt Thames Valley has won planning approval to build 64 new homes, including 19 affordable homes, in the much sought-after village of Downley in High Wycombe.

The development will offer traditional two, three and four-bedroom terraced and detached family houses with these arranged over two storeys and set in beautifully landscaped grounds.

The highly attractive scheme will be situated on the original site of Downley School with access from both School Close and Turner’s Field. Downley School relocated in 2002 to excellent new premises in Faulkner Way, which is conveniently, just a few minutes’ walk from Barratt’s development.

One of the former school buildings, a Victorian property built in the 1870s, still remains on the Barratt site and this serves as a community centre. The housebuilder will be creating a new entrance and additional parking for the community centre, as well as a village green that will be open to the public. Barratt will also be contributing towards the long-term care of the community centre.

Michael O’Leary, managing director of Barratt Thames Valley, says: “We are delighted to have been given the green light for our development in Downley, which addresses a strong demand for quality family homes in the area.

“We expect to start building work in the next couple of months, but I would urge anyone interested in purchasing a home here to contact us now so we can let them know as soon as the first properties are released for sale later in the spring.”

Downley School maintains high academic standards that put it in the top five per cent of primary schools in the country. The village, located high in the Chiltern Hills overlooking the town of High Wycombe, has a couple of churches, shops and a few pubs, the oldest of which dates back to the 17th century.
