Linden leads the way with ‘eco-excellent’ homes

13th February 2007 Print
Linden Homes has committed to building an entire development of ‘Eco-excellent’ homes for the first time at Market Quarter in Chippenham, achieving the highest possible standard of energy-efficient homes recognised by the Building Research Establishment.

The EcoHomes ‘eco-excellent’ award is an assessment method that rates the environmental qualities of new homes, which are then rated on a scale of Pass, Good, Very Good and Excellent. Only the most environmentally friendly properties are awarded the highest accolade, demonstrating outstanding energy preservation, minimal pollution, a green approach to building materials, transport and land use, and water conservation. For the homeowner, this means vastly reduced energy bills and a comfortable, sustainable living environment.

The homes at Market Quarter will use state of the art insulation, sustainable timber, highly energy efficient appliances to reduce fuel and water consumption and low-energy lighting. They will also have internal recycling pods to the kitchens to aid in the sorting of domestic waste.

For the first time, Linden is also introducing ‘HomeZones’ to the Market Quarter. These aim to meet the needs of pedestrians and cyclists through innovative design features to slow traffic and encourage community spirit to flourish with the creation of public open space. HomeZones help to improve the safety and appearance of the neighbourhood.

Philip Davies, Chief Executive of Linden Homes comments: “Eco excellent homes are the pinnacle of environmentally friendly housebuilding, and we are proud to be creating an entire flagship development of over 250 homes with the eco excellent rating. Linden Homes remains committed to ensuring its homes have minimal impact on the environment, as well as reducing living costs for our customers through the creation of highly insulated new homes of the highest quality.”

A total of 256 homes at Market Quarter range from one and two-bedroom apartments to three and four-bedroom family homes, with signature architecture and landscaping. Chippenham town centre is close by, with the train station offering services to Bath in 15 minutes, Bristol in 30 minutes and London Paddington in 80 minutes.
