Get more for your money in the country

19th June 2007 Print
Increasing numbers of city slickers are leaving the big smoke and heading to the country in search of more for their property pound. BDI Home Finders recently announced that the company now has around 40 London based clients looking for a home in the country on its books at any one time, twice as many as this time last year.

One of the main reasons for this is the cost : space ratio of property in rural areas compared to towns and cities. £245,000 will barely stretch to the cost of a small studio flat in central London, however, in the picturesque village of Tisbury in Wiltshire, which has regular trains to London Waterloo taking two hours, it will buy a stunning two bedroom semi-detached cottage, with garden, at Antler Homes’ development, Church Views.

Linda Reeve, of local estate agents Myddelton and Major, comments: “In terms of what you can get for your money, houses in Tisbury are a good deal more affordable than in London. Church Views is ideal for young couples and first time buyers and we are seeing a lot of interest from local people. With city prices continuing to soar we expect to see a migration of people looking further afield for a better quality of life. The development is close to the village centre, where there are lots of facilities, including local shops, schools, a sports centre with pool as well as a variety of good pubs and restaurants.”

Ron Virrill, Managing Director of Antler Homes Wessex, comments: “The Antler Homes brand is synonymous with excellent quality and design. This has been highlighted by our recent success at Mail on Sunday British Homes Awards, where our development Byford Gardens in Porton won the ‘Development of the Year Award’. These houses represent a rare opportunity to buy a newly built contemporary home in the area. Tisbury is a thriving village with a strong community feel which is attracting buyers of all ages. The level of interest in Church Views is testament to the rarity of the development and the great value for money it presents.”

The first phase of Church Views comprises 12 two and three bedroom semi-detached and detached houses, the design of which is inspired by the local vernacular architecture. To ensure that the development blends harmoniously with existing properties, some of the properties have cream rendering and stone elevations with cream stone voussoirs and edging.

Each kitchen is fitted with luxury custom built units and appliances which include Siemens stainless steel gas hob, Siemens stainless steel single oven, integrated fridge/freezer, integrated dishwasher and, when there is no separate utility room, an integrated washing machine. Every living room has double French doors which lead out onto the garden, flooding the interior with natural light.

The bustling high street in the village of Tisbury is home to a number of local shops and pubs. For more shops, bars and restaurants, Shaftesbury and Salisbury are both only 10 miles away. For days by the seaside, Poole and Bournemouth are both under 40 miles from the village. Hourly direct trains from Tisbury to London Waterloo take under two hours (approximately).

Prices start at £245,000 for a two bedroom semi-detached house, £270,000 for a three bedroom semi-detached house and £285,000 for a three bedroom detached house. The marketing suite is open daily between 10am and 5pm.
