Redrow to the rescue for Swindon buyers

For one couple in Swindon, the break down of their chain nearly cost them their dream house – until house builder Redrow Homes stepped in with an offer they couldn’t refuse.

Now, against the odds, Dave Rolls and his wife Chrissie, along with two-year-old son Logan, have set up a home at Redrow’s Abbey Manor in Swindon, and are making way for another arrival to the family.

Chrissie says: “We were looking for a new home because Dave had got a new job in Oxford. We ended up looking at quite a lot, especially on the internet, but in the end we decided on Abbey Manor because of the affordable price and because it’s a great area – we have everything we need here.

“We reserved our home and everything was going great but then our buyer dropped out at the last minute. That’s where Redrow stepped in. They offered to part exchange our previous house for us so that we could move in and it was so easy – they just took it off of our hands and all we had to worry about was moving into our new home.”

The family moved from Andover, in Hampshire, when Dave became general manager of a fitness club in Oxford. Chrissie, who is eight months pregnant, now works in guest relations at a Winchester hotel.

She continues: “Neither Dave nor I are particularly good at DIY, so a new build home is perfect for us. We just picked the specifications that we wanted and moved in – it was easy! I have friends who have done up old houses and they are never happy – there’s always something that needs to be done. It’s too time consuming and there’s so much to do – a new build home suits us down to the ground.”

Chrissie and Dave, who have been together for 11 years, concede that this move was initially more stressful than their last – when they were first time buyers. Chrissie continues: “There was no chain the first time so there was nothing to worry about. Redrow really saved the day this time though, and everything has worked out great.”

While Dave still plays cricket near Andover, for Penton, Chrissie prefers to stay in the local area – thanks to all of the great shops. She also enjoys spending her spare time with Logan and going on walks, and is also a trained opera singer.

Sue Pittaway, area sales manager for Redrow Home (South West) says: “We’re proud to be part of this happy story at Abbey Manor and it shows the commitment we have to our customers in helping them into their new home. I hope they have many a happy year here, especially with the arrival of the new baby.”

Those wishing to follow Dave and Chrissie to Abbey Manor had better not hesitate, as only a handful of properties remain.

Redrow will consider part-exchange on all of the remaining four-bedroom properties, including the Teign home, like Dave and Chrissie’s. This elegant townhouse boasts an en-suite bathroom, spacious, contemporary open plan kitchen/diner and a utility room, as well as plenty of storage space and ground-floor cloakroom. Prices start at £235,000.

Also still available at the development are four-bedroom Knighton and Bradgate homes. Both of these spacious three-storey homes come with a lounge, separate dining room, open plan kitchen/family room and utility room, while the Knighton has a ground floor study. Each house type benefits from en-suite to master bedroom, fitted wardrobes and detached single garage. Prices for a Knighton start at £265,000 and from £239,000 for the Bradgate.

Abbey Manor is situated in Priory Vale area of Swindon and enjoys a whole host of local amenities – from leisure centres, football, rugby and golf clubs to shops, doctor’s surgeries, pubs and restaurants. It is also close to the M4 motorway, providing easy access to Bristol, Cheltenham, Gloucester and South Wales.
