A spacious solution for would-be downsizers

20th May 2008 Print
With their children grown-up Carol and Glyn Hughes decided it was time to downsize from their large family home - and were delighted to discover they didn't need to scrimp on space with a brand new Redrow house.

Carol, 64 and Glyn, 60, have moved to a four-bedroom ‘Ouse' style home at Redrow's Lakelands Edge development in Westbury, Wiltshire and couldn't be happier with their three floors of living space.

Retired Carol said: "We had lived in the same family home in South Wales for 11 years but decided it was time to look for a smaller home. We've had homes all over the country as Glyn has been based in various locations with the RAF but we settled on Wiltshire as it near to his work, affordable and we really like the area.

"We were initially looking at two-bedroom properties but couldn't find one that suited us. That's when we discovered that the three-storey Ouse at Lakelands Edge was also in our price range. It's got two lovely spacious bedrooms on the top floor which gives us an array of options when we have guests to stay. Then we've got two larger bedrooms, one with en-suite, as well as a main bathroom on the first floor. We've always gone for new homes so we don't have to worry about renovations or repairs and can spend more time relaxing when Glyn's not working."

On the ground floor the couple have a spacious open-plan kitchen/dining area as well as a lounge - perfect for entertaining friends.

Carol added: "It ticked all the boxes for us. It's near the train station, which allows me to visit my son and daughter with relative ease. It's also only a short walk to the nearby town of Westbury and there is a lot to do right on our doorstep.

"As well as downsizing, we were originally planning to rent instead of buy but once we saw the offer from Redrow we decided it was too good to refuse. Added to the location and the beautiful view of the lake, it was our ideal home."

For those who want to follow the Hughes' examples, other spacious three-storey designs currently available at Lakelands Edge include the four-bedroom Ribble, which has a sumptuous master bedroom and en-suite in its cleverly converted roofspace.

Redrow's Lakeland Edge is situated on the edge of Westbury and just a short distance from the historical city of Bath. The nearby railway station provides excellent train links to London.

Available homes include one and two-bedroom apartments as well as two, three and four-bedroom houses with current prices from just £123,000 for a one bedroom apartment, £133, 000 for a two-bedroom apartments, £189,995 for three-bedroom Lambourne, while the four-bedroom Ribble starts from £245,000.
