New homes hiding among period gems

New homes hiding among period gems Marlborough is renowned for its history and fantastic street scenes. And its many appealing corners are not the sort of spaces that should ever be despoiled by intrusive new homes, so a development on an important site in the High Street has been designed to hide carefully from view.

Set back from the High Street behind the terrace of pretty period properties facing St. Peter’s Church, St Peter’s Place comprises just six spacious mews-style town houses, five three bedroom and one two bedroom, each with allocated parking and generously sized gardens.

“Four of the houses have quickly sold, reflecting that even in the difficult market that has become a prime topic of conversation buying a new home in the town is still more of a priority for some,” reports Julie Fellows, of the Marlborough office of Dreweatt Neate.

“I now have the two bedroom home to offer at £425,000 and one three bedroom house at £450,000 and it looks like these could be some of the most appealing properties in town.

“One of the features that attracts people to Marlborough is its vibrant High Street, where there’s a twice weekly market along with a wide variety of big name national and smaller, more specialised local businesses.

“There is literally something for everyone along the High Street and the network of smaller streets and passageways that radiate from it – and now that includes two new homes as well.

“Despite this being such a bustling thoroughfare, the position of the homes means they have created a new backwater for the future generations of Marlborough residents to explore that provides a quiet haven just a few steps from everything the town has to offer.

“Even better, all around Marlborough is outstanding Downland countryside that provides a host of recreational opportunities, from walking, cycling, and horse riding through to boating on the Kennet and Avon Canal.

“Colburn Homes, based in Cirencester, has built these new properties to their familiar high standards and the houses are to interesting designs with great attention to detail and well planned accommodation.

“The second floor master suite of the three bedroom house will really appeal while the two bedrooms on the first floor, together with the family bathroom, offer good space, too.

“On the ground floor, the three bedroom house has a large living space with an open-plan kitchen to one end and a living / dining room across the rear of the houses, where French windows in glazed side panels open into the gardens.

“The two bedroom house has an ample ground floor study with doors to a courtyard as well as a large first floor living space with French doors onto a west-facing sun terrace that overlooks the courtyard. The second floor has the two bedrooms, one with en-suite shower, and the family bathroom.

“All the bathrooms and en-suites are very stylish while the design-led kitchens feature granite worktops and a full range of integrated appliances. Underfloor heating brings great efficiency while also allowing much more flexibility in furniture placing as there is no need to avoid radiators.”
