Taste island life - In deepest Wiltshire

17th December 2008 Print
Taste island life - In deepest Wiltshire Island life appeals to many people, but how about a taste of it in the middle of rural Wiltshire? You may think that can only be achieved by listening to Desert Island Discs on a Sunday morning, but you would be wrong.

For the Marlborough office of Dreweatt Neate is selling Island House, at Sunton in Collingbourne Ducis. And there’s even the chance there for some waterside life as the River Bourne forms the eastern boundary of the garden and, on sun-kissed days, there’s the chance to relax beside the pool and take a dip.

Island House is a charming house believed to date back to the mid 17th Century so, as you might expect, it has a wealth of period features. It also has the type of space that owners of many modern homes can only dream of, with a resulting flexibility in the way the accommodation can be arranged.

There are five reception rooms, including two sitting rooms. One of these has east-facing French windows plus two south-facing windows while the second has south-facing French windows and a west-facing main window and door.

An archway in the entrance hall, which has an attractive turning staircase at one end, opens into the dining room from which stairs at the side of the fireplace rise to one of the five first floor bedrooms where there’s a range of wardrobes along one wall. The bedroom opens onto the main landing through a lobby off which there’s another bedroom.

Back on the ground floor, the kitchen has units arranged around three sides has access through a side lobby to the utility room. On the opposite side of the ground floor, a spur off the entrance hall leads to a family room, study, and shower room. It would be easy to make one or more of these rooms into sleeping accommodation or a wing for a more independent family member while still leaving plenty of living space in the rest of the house.

The master bedroom has a southerly outlook and opens through an arch into a dressing room with wardrobes and a door into the en-suite with corner shower cubicle. At the rear of the first floor there are two more bedrooms plus the family bathroom.

The house sits in attractive gardens and enjoys a private setting. It is tucked away down a small lane but still close to the village facilities, which include two public houses, a post office / store, church, and new village school. It also has good road links to surrounding towns such as Marlborough, Pewsey, and Andover and rail access at Pewsey, Great Bedwyn and Andover.

Guide price for Island House is £695,000. For more details, contact Dreweatt Neate in Marlborough - marlborough@dnproperty.co.uk.
