Have a view on Turkey

20th May 2007 Print
Beach Residence, Bodrum There is one factor that separates a good sea view from an outstanding sea view and that’s elevation. On a flat patch of coastline, the merest hint of a tree can restrict the perfect sea view, and if you’re 50 metres back with an apartment block in front, there may be times that you forget the sea’s there at all. But on a coastline with a steady gradient, like Turkey’s Bodrum peninsula surrounded by the translucent turquoise Aegean Sea, the views just keep on getting better.

Bodrum, the longest established of the Turkish coastal resorts is a perennial favourite with international tourists, moneyed yachties and the weekending Istanbul set. Dressed up in swathes of bougainvillea, the coastline is punctuated with secluded sandy beaches, impressive rocky crags and relaxing marinas with waterfront restaurants. This is also a most verdant part of Turkey and the scenery journeys from olive orchards to citrus groves and pine forests in the space of kilometres. Within the vicinity of Bodrum is a selection of smaller, distinctive resorts from the pretty bay of Gümüslük to new marina resort of Yalikavak, so there’s plenty to see and explore, by land or Blue Cruise in a traditional gület.

Adam Godwin, Marketing Manager of Dream Homes WorldWide comments, “Although Bodrum’s history stretches back 2,000 years and it has been a tourist haven for several decades, there are still interesting plans afoot for the future. The large marina has recently been joined by an International Cruise Line Terminal and the biggest golf resort in Turkey, with two 18 hole and two 9 hole championship PGA golf courses, is set to open later this year just a few kilometres to the north of Bodrum. Bodrum International Airport, 30 minutes’ from the resort, is to receive a second terminal to increase capacity to more than five million passengers annually. Factors such as the widening of the mortgage market, expansion of low cost airline services and a steady course towards EU membership will only push this region’s popularity even higher. Property prices have already risen up to 25% in some resorts over the last year.”
