Exhibition attracts the crowds in Horwich

The show home at Arcon Village There were queues for a second time at Redrow’s Arcon Village development in Horwich, as local people lined up to take a look at a new exhibition now open at the former bleach works.

When Redrow launched the development back in 2004, budding home buyers queued down the long sweeping driveway that leads to the ‘village’, to view plans for the development and reserve homes.

This time around it was a ‘History of Arcon’ exhibition which got people moving, as Redrow opened the doors to the public as part of a month long exhibition which illustrates the history of the important site – from its humble beginning as an 18th century bleach works right through to the amazing transformation currently being undertaken by Redrow Homes.

Lesley Myers, area sales manager for Redrow Homes (Lancashire) said: “As Arcon Village is such an important part of Horwich’s history, and we often have people dropping into the marketing suite to speak to Adrienne our sales consultant, to find out what improvements we’re making here, so we thought an exhibition was the perfect way to show local people how we’re restoring the remains of the past.

“We held a launch event on the Thursday prior to the official opening, when around 60 to 70 people attended, and then to have queues over the weekend was fabulous. Local people were really interested in viewing old pictures from the bleach works, as well as reading all about its past – all in the modern environment we’ve created through our refurbishment.”

The History of Arcon exhibition showcases important chapters in the history of one of Horwich’s best known landmarks and will remain open until the end of May 2007. Visitors can get the chance to view artefacts and images of how the bleach works used to look, as well as a DVD which includes a look back at the history of the Wallsuches site, which was once owned by the Ridgeway family.

Lesley continues: “We have dedicated a huge amount of time and money into sensitively restoring the buildings that were once part of the Arcon bleach works in keeping with their Grade II listed status – and it’s this care and attention to detail which sets Arcon apart. That’s why we welcome everyone to come to visit our exhibition.”

Once completed, Arcon Village will consist of around 140 apartments, town houses and mews-style cottages, with all properties being restored in accordance with Grade II listed building guidelines to ensure they retain the essence of the town’s industrial heritage.

A stunning show home is now open for viewing. It is a three-bedroom, split-level, mews-style cottage, decorated and designed with sophistication in mind – mirroring the style Arcon Village projects.

There is a wide range of homes currently on release at Arcon Village – including two-bedroom ground floor apartments with parking, priced at £175,995, as well as two and three-bedroom mid-mews style properties priced from £199,995 and four-bedroom cottages priced at £272,995.
