Marine living - The way forward?
Homehunters in Lancashire will soon have over 300 new properties to choose from, when a leading house builder opens a truly unique and exciting venture at Fleetwood Docks.Redrow Homes has been given planning permission for a homes development of 380 properties – which will be a mixture of starter homes, townhouses, and semi-detached properties, and apartments, including a number of elite penthouses – with some of these enjoying spectacular views overlooking the estuary.
The 30 acre site was purchased from Association British Ports (ABP) and former uses include a grain store elevator, railway line and latterly derelict land. The new venture by the award-winning housebuilder promises to offer exclusive living in an up and coming location.
Steve Greenhalgh, land director for Redrow Homes (Lancashire) says: “We’re extremely pleased to have acquired this site, which we have named Harbour Village, and are looking forward to embarking on such an exciting building project– the first of its kind for a long time in the area - that will breathe life into the area and give Fleetwood Docks a facelift for the future.
“Throughout the planning stages, we have tried to keep in mind the surrounding area and give the venture a unique look and the homes, where possible, will take advantage of the views across the estuary and marina – bringing a touch of desirable waterside living to Fleetwood.
To allow building work to start at Harbour Village, an impressive £5m reclamation scheme is underway, which involves dredging 200 m3 metres of sand from the adjoining estuary to raise site levels.
As well as offering luxury homes, the site is bounded east by the Wyre Estuary, which is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (noted for its population of over wintering birds) and is also bounded to the south by the Fleetwood Marsh Nature Reserve, which is a Biological Heritage Site.
Steve continues: “As part of the planning permission we will also be creating a public access road to the estuary, with visitor parking and a play area, cycle and bridle paths and a new bus service for the site. Also Redrow will be contributing £1m towards affordable housing in the area.”
Construction work has already, a marketing suite will be opened in the summer. The development will consist of five development areas – The Village, The Estuary, The Marina, The Point, and The Square.
