Nicola gets a home of her own

First time buyer Nicola Furney is happily getting ready to move into her own home in Heysham, thanks to Miller Homes and Homebuy Direct.

Using the Government backed Homebuy Direct scheme, Nicola has been able to purchase a 2 bedroom apartment at Miller Homes’ Millers Green development. Homebuy Direct provides a more affordable way to buy a new home and is designed to help first time buyers, key workers and those struggling to afford a new home to be able to move.

Employed as a teacher at Heysham High School, Nicola qualified for Homebuy Direct as a first time buyer and key worker. The scheme enabled her to purchase 100% of her apartment but pay only 70% of its value now. Miller Homes and the Government equally fund the remaining 30% on a loan that is interest-free for 5 years and then has capped interest for up to another 20 years. This 30% equity loan will only become repayable after 25 years or when Nicola sells her home, whichever comes first.

Nicola says: “The process of buying my apartment using Homebuy Direct has been very straightforward and I would encourage other people to look into the scheme as a way of being able to afford a home of their own. I have received lots of help every step of the way from the Miller Homes’ sales negotiator and am surprised how quickly things have gone through. I am now really looking forward to moving in and having a place of my own.”

Nicola is soon to move into a ‘Bridgewater’ apartment. She says: “As soon as I walked in I thought I could live here. I really like the uniqueness of the design, as the living area is on an angle, which makes it interesting. I’m most looking forward to having my own space, having previously been living with my parents. I can’t wait to have all my friends round for parties.”

Besides the apartment design, the development at Millers Green also appealed to Nicola. She says: “I have friends already living at Millers Green and whenever I visited them thought what a great place it was to live. I have lived close by in Morecambe for sixteen years so am familiar with the area. It is also convenient for me to get to work, with the school being around ten minutes drive away.

Millers Green is within strolling distance of the attractions of Heysham waterfront and its historic village centre. The charming village has a range of individual shops, cafes and a 16th century pub, along with services catering for everyday needs.
