Persimmon gets serious about sustainability
Committed to building ‘living’ communities, Persimmon Homes East Midlands has announced that it is trialling modern methods of construction (MMC) at two of the company’s Cambridgeshire-based developments, HydrO in St Neots and Renaissance in Arbury. The timber frames are being used to construct the apartments at each of the sites, which are manufactured in the factory then delivery to the developments to be craned into position; the result, the shell of a home which can be erected in days rather than weeks.
Adam Knight, technical director for Persimmon Homes East Midlands, comments: “We employed our sister company, Space4, to produce the timber frames for St Neots and Arbury. Space4 is the largest producer of fast track, off-site manufactured construction systems, so we were safe in the knowledge that they would provide a highly skilled and cost effective solution for the projects.
“The timber frames, which are becoming increasingly important for the construction modern developments, ensure that we are inline with current building regulations and the homes are being built at a faster rate, whilst not compromising on Persimmon’s high standards of quality.”
HydrO comprises a mix of two, three and four bedroom homes with a number of properties on the development enjoying views over the water. The development is proving a number one choice for househunters looking for a picturesque location with excellent access to major towns and cities and whilst HydrO enjoys a quiet location, it also benefits from excellent transport links north and south via the A1 and A428, making it ideal for commuters.
Renaissance meanwhile, boasts just 72 brand new homes consisting of a mix of two bedroom apartments, two bedroom coach houses and three and four bedroom homes spanning two and three storeys.
Arbury is one of the most up and coming residential districts in Cambridge and with the cycle and pedestrian routes as well as a community centre and play areas planned as part of Persimmon’s ongoing commitment to the area, it really will be a special place to live.
