New Peterborough home for IT department

The BGL Group has invested £1.8 million in new premises for its rapidly-expanding IT department at Park House, Lynch Wood, Peterborough.

Group Director Jon Ardron said the move was necessary to cope with the continuing expansion of the BGL Group, formerly the Budget Group of Companies, which is the UK’s largest privately-owned personal lines insurance broker.

The IT department services the complete range of the BGL Group’s diverse trading divisions: Budget & Dial, Junction, comparethemarket.com, Bennetts, Fusion and ACM ULR. It supports the business across a wide range of IT disciplines, including software development, systems support, management information and platforms. The majority of the software to support the Group’s customer-facing divisions is developed in-house.

The BGL Group is now among one of the largest IT employers in Peterborough – the existing 170-strong workforce will be relocating to Park House in July, but the 21,000 sq ft building has room to grow to 250 employees, in line with the continued expansion plans.

Director of IT David Matthewman said: “The business is growing so fast we are running out of space at the head office site in Pegasus House at Orton Southgate. It’s good news for Peterborough. The BGL Group is a growing, burgeoning business and we must be amongst the largest IT employers in the city.

“We work with some prestigious brands within the Group such as Bennetts bike insurance, ibuyeco.com, Marks & Spencer and the Post Office. Not only is this an exciting IT department, but we have a fantastic working environment on offer too. “

David’s team supports the business across a wide range of IT disciplines, including software development, systems support, management information and platforms. The majority of the development work to support Budget’s customer-facing divisions is developed in-house.

The entire department was relocated to the air-conditioned offices in July , where some of the new facilities include an on-site gym and a Costa coffee shop.

The BGL Group will be hosting a drinks and canapés reception followed by a barbecue for all its IT employees to celebrate the official opening in August.
