Persimmon Homes’ landmark acquisition Persimmon Homes East Midlands has announced it has completed the largest land acquisition the company has ever made, with plans to build 1,525 homes and a local bypass in Stanground, Peterborough. The land, which spans 120 acres, currently has outline planning consent and will accommodate the ever expanding local community within the Peterborough area.

Adrian Evans, managing director for Persimmon Homes East Midlands is thrilled with the region’s progress and comments: “This is a milestone acquisition for the company as it further testifies our strength as a homebuilder within the East Midlands region as well as proving our commitment to building homes for a variety of purchasers, no matter what their budget or requirements.”

Initial construction work to the bypass adjacent to the site is due to commence in February 2008, with work starting on the homes this summer. The development will consist of a mix of one and two bedroom apartments, through to four and five bedroom homes. A provision of 30 per cent of the properties being built will be allocated to affordable housing.

Daryl Kirkland, land director for the company adds: “We have been developing our design philosophy for this scheme for several years and we are confident the development will see a transformation into a collection of attractive homes and places for the community to enjoy.”

As well as the properties being built Persimmon will be working closely with the local council to provide a new bypass as well as creating playing fields, a community centre which will incorporate a number of shops, office space, surgery, public house and several homes for the elderly.

The company will also be funding the construction of a new local primary school and will be contributing to Peterborough’s Green Wheel, by including cycle paths within the development, Persimmon hopes to encourage residents to use bicycles in an attempt to reduce the number of motorised journeys.

Adrian concludes: “This scheme will further establish Peterborough as a place that embraces modern architectural solutions to sustainable development, which is sure to benefit the wider community for generations to come.”

Persimmon is interested in purchasing land occupying two acres or more which is within an easy drive of a local town and amenities.
