'Weakest Link' triumph is a home win for Jo!

'Weakest Link' triumph is a home win for Jo! Jo Wright has found a novel way of turning a brand new house into a home. The 32-year-old nurse at Addenbrooke's Hospital and soldier husband Darren (36) are the first couple to move to George Wimpey's Lion Mills development in Soham - and thanks to Jo's win on The Weakest Link TV quiz show, they added luxury finishing touches to their home before they had even moved in!

"I applied to go on The Weakest Link about four years ago," says Jo, "but after being told I had made it through the initial selection, I didn't hear anything and had almost forgotten about it. But then, around the time we were looking to buy our first house, they got in touch and I went on the show and won.

"All the other contestants were lovely - and so was Anne Robinson when we weren't on set! She's harsh with her comments when the cameras are on, but that's the name of the game. You don't go on The Weakest Link if you can't take a bit of verbal abuse!"

Modest Jo says her success was down to being ‘lucky with the questions' - but by being the last one standing she walked away with £2,300.

"Because we bought our home off-plan, we could tweak the design, so we had an internal door added from the garage to the hall, and choose a beautiful kitchen upgrade from George Wimpey's Options range," she explains.

The couple chose their three-bedroom, three-storey ‘Bardwell' townhouse after friends in Soham recommended they take a look around the development. Jo and Darren, an army mechanic based at RAF Honington, set their hearts on the property, moving from military quarters in Thetford with their Labrador dog, Dave.

Ideal for first-time buyers like Jo and Darren, the ‘Bardwell' features an attractive kitchen with open-plan dining room and French doors to the rear garden, a cloakroom off the entrance hallway, and an integral garage.

Upstairs, the landing leads to a spacious living room, a double bedroom and a second cloakroom. A master bedroom with en-suite, a third bedroom and a main bathroom can be found on the top floor.

Like all new homes at the development, the ‘Bardwell' enjoys a high standard specification including central heating, double glazing and a fitted kitchen with built-in oven, hob and hood.

The three-bedroom design is currently available at Lion Mills from £184,995 while four-bedroom houses start at £249,995. One-bedroom apartments are priced from £99,995 and two-bedroom apartments from £124,995.

A range of incentives are available for buyers of all circumstances, including George Wimpey's easymover scheme, which offers financial support for first-time buyers and can help those with a home to sell make a quick and simple move. Incentives can be tailored to homebuyers' circumstances and are subject to availability. Further details are available from the Sales Executive.

Lion Mills is ideally located in Soham, benefiting from a wide range of amenities on the doorstep, including high street shops, a choice of supermarkets, and pubs, restaurants and take-aways.

The picturesque town of Ely is 10-minutes drive away, offering a wider selection of shops and leisure activities, while Newmarket is a similar distance to the south. Cambridge can be reached in 30 minutes by road.

For commuters, the A412 offers quick links to the A14 east and west, while Ely Train Station provides a direct service to London Kings Cross.
