George Wimpey site manager wins ‘building Oscar'

The former bricklayer, who has worked his way up through the industry and started to oversee the building of Vision's 85 homes in 2007, said: "I'm delighted to have received the award - the NHBC sets a tough competition standard, with every aspect of the site coming under scrutiny by the judges.
"My team works hard to keep standards consistently high, but I had to take 13 weeks off recovering from a spine operation, and when I came back to work in October 2007 the NHBC manager on site at Hampton said we needed to pull out all the stops to grab the judges' attention.
"So we really went for it, and the team was really motivated to go beyond their usual high standards, and although I've not been told the particular aspects which made Vision stand out from other developments, I believe it's the finishing touches to the homes and the landscaping which we have carried out that really sets our work apart."
Gareth (38) won his first NHBC Award while working for George Wimpey in 2003 on an earlier phase of the Hampton development. He has also won a Customer Care Hallmark Award.
Vision is a development of three, four and five-bedroom homes off West Lake Avenue in Hampton Vale, just three miles from Peterborough city centre and with the Serpentine Green shopping centre within close proximity of the homes.
For leisure, Ferry Meadows Country Park is just a mile from the development, offering nearly 500 acres of lakes, woodland and riverside walks, bird-watching, golf, water sports, pony rides and boat trips. The park is also home to the Nene Valley Steam Railway and a number of annual events, including a kite-flying festival, a rowing club regatta and wildlife days.
