Wantage residents welcome new public open space

Residents in Wantage have welcomed the opening of a new area of public open space, including a stunning piece of mosaic artwork. Situated off Chapel Close the area of open space has been designed for the enjoyment of local residents and features a central mosaic map created by artist Rob Turner and depicting the famous Ridgeway trail.

Commissioned by developer Persimmon Homes in partnership with Vale of White Horse District Council, The Ridgeway Map and area of open space was officially opened by Rob Turner with local residents invited to attend and view the map for the first time since they helped lay its final tiles.

Speaking about the project which has taken over a year to design and install, Rob Turner commented: "The mosaic was designed as an urban invitation to Wantage residents to explore the beauty of the surrounding countryside hence the reference within it to local landmarks such as the White Horse and Wayland Smithy. I'm thrilled with the finished design as the golden colours of the mosaic's leaf border perfectly marry with the brickwork of Persimmon's surrounding housing and I hope it will inspire locals in the area to discover the beauty of the Ridgeway."
