Unusual solution provides second bedroom

21st March 2007 Print
Cottage After a heavy week, all you sometimes want to do is get away from it all and if sinking into oblivion deep in the Hampshire countryside appeals to you, then the Winchester lettings department of Dreweatt Neate may have just the property to tempt you.

Situated on a rural estate near Stockbridge, the former farm building has been turned into an open plan dwelling with a double height sitting room complete with log burning stove, a contemporary kitchen area with integrated appliances, a shower room, and galleried bedroom.

But it’s the sheer inventiveness of the way a second bedroom has been added that makes this home so unusual. A restored traditional wheeled corrugated shepherd’s hut has been placed in the garden before being insulated, supplied with power, and fitted with two built-in beds.

“This is available as a secondary home rather than a primary residence, somewhere to escape the pressures of the daily grind and have a weekend chill out,” says Zaza Patterson of Dreweatt Neate.

“With its rent of £725 per calendar month, the cottage really is an affordable way to get away from it all.

“But if you want a country home that’s more permanent, I can also offer a three bedroom end of terrace cottage in the same area for £900 per calendar month.

“It has a very appealing kitchen / breakfast / family room and there’s also a separate sitting room with open fire. With two double bedrooms, a single, family bathroom, shower room, and boot room, this makes an ideal base for a family tempted by country living.”
