Basingstoke: Property Hot Spot in 2007

Previous research from The Royal Bank of Scotland has stated that government funded regeneration schemes can significantly contribute to an area’s property hotspot rating. Developments such as Antler Homes’ Oakwood Gardens, are instrumental to the future expansion of the town and its workforce.
Ron Virrill, Managing Director at Antler Homes Wessex, comments: “Basingstoke’s regeneration involves improving public transport systems and accessibility to the town centre whilst developing high quality shopping and leisure facilities. This continued growth will also provide a wide range of housing to meet the needs of the town’s growing workforce, estimated to rise by up to 20,000 people in the next 20 years.
“Oakwood Gardens is an important development for Antler Homes as it is building on the success of our previous developments in Chineham. It is exciting to be part of such an influential regeneration scheme in this cosmopolitan town.”
Mark Blackmore, a partner at Shackleton and Blackmore estate agents, comments: “Basingstoke is continuing to develop and thrive as a commercial centre for the South East region. The town is home to numerous multi-national companies including the Sony head office for the UK. The property market in Basingstoke is already benefiting from the regeneration in the town centre and developments such as Oakwood Gardens will ensure that it will gain momentum throughout the year.”
Oakwood Gardens comprises 13 two and three bedroom terraced, semi-detached and detached houses and two bedroom apartments. The development uses a combination of ruby brick and white render to blend the different architectural styles harmoniously.
The houses combine pitched roofs, porches and window voussoirs which all draw on the local architecture. The apartment building has a more contemporary edge, with a traditional mansard roof and an elongated front gable. The run of bay windows down the front of the building is highlighted by white render and the extensive glazing above the entrance.
Internally each apartment has an open plan kitchen/living/dining area which is flooded with light from the numerous large windows. Every house has a separate living room which is airy and bright, with French doors leading out onto the garden. Each property comes fitted with a luxury custom built kitchen including a Siemens stainless steel oven, Siemens stainless steel gas hob, integrated freezer, integrated dishwasher, integrated washing machine and ceramic floor tiles.
Basingstoke is already home to a number of excellent schools, shops, bars and restaurants and the regeneration campaign will enhance these facilities. The town has recently benefited from the development of an extensive leisure park which is home to a large multi-screen cinema, gym, restaurants, bars and an ice skating rink.
London Heathrow Airport is only 40 miles away and Southampton is less than thirty miles away. There are direct trains to London Waterloo from Basingstoke train station which take under an hour and Reading and the M4 are easily accessible from the town centre.
Prices at Oakwood Gardens start at £180,000 for a two bedroom apartment, £210,000 for a two bedroom mews house, £250,000 for a three bedroom mews house and £240,000 for a three bedroom semi-detached house. For further information visit Antlerhomes.co.uk.
