Supporters get the Sunday blues

25th April 2007 Print
Chelsea It’s never going to be a common site, witnessing the might of Chelsea running out in the famous blue strip to take on a Headley Youth FC coaches select side – but this was the Old Boys of yesteryear aiming to re-live former glories.

Still, big names and Shed End legends such as former England international Kerry Dixon and Clive Walker, were on-hand to show they still have what it takes as they took to the pitch in the match on Sunday afternoon (April 22).

Charles Church Southern Managing Director John Hutchings, said: “It was a really well organized day, enjoyable and Charles Church was more than happy to get involved as sponsors of the event.

“The game itself was a good, competitive one, which was excellent for the supporters who turned up to enjoy the occasion.”

The day also included a food and beer tent with more than 1,200 fans turning up to enjoy the festivities, not forgetting the actual game which ended in a 6-3 win for the Chelsea Old Boys.

Kerry Dixon, said: "All of the lads were impressed with the ability, attitude and spirit of the Headley team. The groundsman should be commended too because the pitch was in tremendous shape and was one of the best we've played on at this level."

Headley Youth FC Chairman Clive Harrod, said: “What a fantastic day. I can't thank the Chelsea team enough for taking the time to autograph and chat to so many of our children - some of them were still on the pitch a good 30 minutes after the game had ended. They were all great company in the player's lounge afterwards too.”

Charles Church has The Chase development at nearby Lindford. Prices range from £219,950 to £304,950. Stamp duty is paid on selected plots and part exchange is also available.
