Exciting developments this summer at Royal Clarence Marina
Berkeley Homes’ Royal Clarence Marina in Gosport really is living up to the description of a ‘flagship’ development with the latest collection of homes, Flagstaff Green, which is launching this weekend 11th and 12th August. Flagstaff Green comprises just five properties, including one-bedroom apartments and two-bedroom houses, either refurbished or newly built, which occupy a prestigious position near the Grand Ceremonial Gate. The refurbished homes, surrounding a tranquil green, include the former Police Lodge and Gate House while the newly built homes have been designed to complement the freshly-painted Georgian facades of the original properties Internally, both new and refurbished homes offer individual layouts so no two homes are the same.
Another arrival well worth a bit of flag-waving is the new show apartment at The Bakery. With a prime position overlooking the colourful marina, this two-bedroom home has been refurbished with all of Berkeley Homes’ customary skill to make the most of its unique features. The Bakery once turned out ‘ship’s biscuit’ by the ton when Royal Clarence Yard, as it then called, was a working naval victualling yard, and it is now a Grade ll Listed building of some grandeur.
Many of the homes, including the show apartment, retain original features including exposed wooden beams, cast iron columns, and goods hoist platforms, converted into private balconies. Some of the top floor apartments also have magnificent vaulted ceilings.
All the apartments and houses at The Bakery and Flagstaff Green, whilst reflecting their maritime heritage, are also designed to suit sophisticated modern tastes and living standards. The stylish individually-designed kitchens include a full range of high quality appliances, elegant bathroom and en-suite shower rooms are fitted with Villeroy and Boch sanitaryware and Hansgrohe fittings and many of the beautifully planned, light-filled living spaces have higher than average ceilings and large windows.
Put out the flags: there are some exciting developments this summer at Royal Clarence Marina.
The regeneration of Royal Clarence Marina over the years is an enormous undertaking by Berkeley Homes. Forming the last part of the regeneration of Portsmouth Harbour, it provides a wide choice of refurbished and contemporary new homes, all with something slightly different to offer. The water is key to its character. Access to the sea was, of course, the reason why the original Royal Clarence Yard was built, and Berkeley Homes has taken care to retain the maritime/harbour element.
As many homes as possible have water views and the marina is an endless source of visual pleasure as the pleasure craft come and go, or lie at anchor with their colourful pennants catching the breeze. In the distance are the open waters of Portsmouth Harbour, where ship-spotters can see everything from luxury liners and ferries to huge container vessels.
Royal Clarence Marina is very tranquil but has excellent connections to the surrounding neighbourhoods. The shops and facilities of Gosport are on the doorstep, and you can jump on the harbour ferry, or treat yourself to the new water taxi service, to quickly reach the exciting attractions of Portsmouth or Gunwharf Quays, with its fantastic collection of shops, bars, restaurants and multi-screen cinema.
Royal Clarence Marina is also close to the M27 (for the M3 and A3), Southampton airport and Portsmouth’s ferry terminals, whilst the rail network offers direct services to London Waterloo.
