Two site managers from Barratt Homes Southampton - Peter Scott and Tom Moody - have been awarded NHBC Pride in the Job awards. Peter (24) won the award for his work at Barratt’s Voyage development in the village of Warsash near Southampton and Tom (30) for Barratt’s Lion House site in Portsmouth.

As winners of this quality award, they have also been nominated for the NHBC regional Seal of Excellence Awards, to be announced at an award ceremony in Bournemouth in October.

This is not the first time the two men have won accolades. Peter, who is currently managing The Grange development in Alresford, Hampshire, won the NHBC award last year for his work at Voyage, where all the properties have now been sold.

Tom, now managing the Citigait site in Portsmouth, was awarded Barratt’s internal Site Manager of the Year award for 2006 and 2007 for his work at nearby Lion House.

The NHBC award seeks out and acknowledges the very best site managers and just 400 were rewarded in this year’s competition out of a total of 22,000 nationwide entrants. Launched in 1980, the contest is recognised within the industry as a seal of approval for new homes.

To win the awards, Peter and Tom had to go through a year-long judging procedure, enabling NHBC inspectors to fully assess their work over an extended period of time. Areas assessed included working practices, management and motivational skills, health and safety controls and technical expertise.

“I’m amazed to have won this award for the second year running, as I’m still quite young, but I’m so proud to have been acknowledged by the NHBC again,” said Peter.

Tom added: “I was really proud to receive the Barratt awards for 2006 and 2007 and this NHBC award is the icing on the cake – it’s great to be recognised by both your employer and the industry as a whole.”

Peter started working for Barratt Homes Southampton eight years ago as an apprentice site manager and four years ago he was promoted to site manager. He has been the site manager at The Grange since work started in January 2007.

Tom joined Barratt three and a half years ago, having worked previously as a site manager in London and Jersey, and he is now a projects manager with the company. He has been working at Citigait since February.

Ian Wallace, managing director of Barratt Homes Southampton, commented:

“We’re absolutely delighted to have not one but two award winners this year. Both Peter and Tom have proved that they are highly talented site managers who know how to motivate their teams. Our award winning staff demonstrate Barratt’s commitment to its own people and to building quality new homes for homebuyers everywhere.”

The Grange offers 34 two, four and five-bedroom houses and a small number are still for sale, with prices starting at £254,995. Some two-bedroom apartments are still available at Lion House and the Citigait development will eventually offer 83 one and two-bedroom apartments. Prices at this new development in the centre of Portsmouth start from £159,995.
