Staff to show some Miller respect

13th November 2007 Print
Miller Homes is asking the people of Basingstoke, where the developer’s Southern Head Office is based, and where it is also building a new development called ‘Pinnacle’, to play a role in assessing its performance as a new homes builder following the launch of a 24 hour hotline to respond to comments regarding its site activities or to log complaints.

The hotline number will be displayed on all site hoardings and across other marketing material and is just part of the company’s newly launched “Miller Respect” initiative – an internal project designed to help Miller Homes to become a better “neighbour” on all of its developments nationwide

Under the scheme, Miller Homes aims to keep construction disruption to a minimum and make sure builders are kept as safe as possible when working on site.

Starting this October, every single Miller Homes site across the UK is now set to receive at least two visits from the company’s dedicated Health and Safety team each year.

Key people working on any of the company’s 100+ current developments across the country will be tested on their consideration of the environment, their thought for their neighbours and their site presentation and safety – as well as respect for their colleagues.

Divisional Safety, Health & Environment Manager of Miller Homes, Dave Hickman, said: “Earlier this year, we said very publically that we wanted to become a better neighbour and employer. We also said that we want to do more to help the planet. Miller Respect will help us to achieve all of this – and more.

“The scheme encourages all site based staff to think green: we judge them on pollution prevention measures, we look at what they are doing to protect the wildlife and trees on site and we question what energy and water efficiency methods they have in place and we look at how hard they are trying to reduce waste.

“In addition, we question how well staff are working with their local communities, whether local schools have been contacted and whether surrounding residents feel they have been advised of our plans. We look at the controls in place for the prevention of ‘antisocial’ behaviour by our workforce and we double check the health and safety procedures employed on site.

“All of this will help us to meet our ultimate objective of becoming a better housebuilder – and not just in the eyes of our buyers, but by anyone who comes into contact with us, for any reason.”

Miller Homes Southern has 8 current developments across the south including Swindon, Fareham, Guildford, Hermitage, Horndean, Maidenhead and Basingstoke. There is also a new development coming soon in Sarisbury Green.
