Barratt Homes' new development at Citigait, which lies at the heart of the Portsmouth historic naval base, has gone down a storm with local buyers working with the Ministry of Defence.

According to the Citigait sales team, a succession of sales to MOD officials started with one happy customer who was so pleased with his purchase he offered to put up advertising flyers on notice boards.

"We received a few good enquiries but things really took off when we placed an ad in the MOD Discount Magazine offering a £500 pound per £25,000 discount," said sales negotiator Tracy Shepherd.

"That set the phones ringing so a good proportion of sales in the first release of Citigait have gone to MOD employees. For some of them, the flat is only 200 yards away from their offices. At present, only the 27 two bedroom apartments in the first block have been released and most of the enquiries have come from first time buyers attracted by the superb value with prices starting at £192,995.
