Brockbridge cottage offers interesting blend of old and new An interesting blend of the old and new awaits the new owners of a cottage at Brockbridge, near Droxford, in the much-sought Meon Valley. Brockbridge Hill Cottage was built just over 100 year ago and extended about 75 years later before further work more recently. But creating the newer sections in keeping with the old shows how well the different periods can be integrated.

“There has been great attention paid to the small details, things that would otherwise catch the eye and then always grate,” explains Matthew Hallett, of the Winchester office of Dreweatt Neate.

“For instance, correct cornices and ceiling roses were researched and the house now has a very relaxing atmosphere, with the daily bustle confined to one end of the ground floor, where there’s a large kitchen / family room and south-facing conservatory / dining room.

“On the opposite side of the entrance hall, a sitting room makes an immediate relaxation area while tucked away beyond is an accommodating drawing room with south-facing glazed concertina doors into the garden and a door to the study.

“The first floor is given over to six bedrooms. The master, in a wing with two others, has a Juliet balcony overlooking the garden and an ample en-suite with bath and shower. The second, guest bedroom has an en-suite shower room.

“There’s also a studio above the double car barn. Next to the barn is a gate to the garden terrace and conservatory, traditionally the main entrance to the house.

“The grounds of approximately two thirds of an acre have clever landscaping creating a large central terrace with summer house. Around this is a lawn broken by mature fruit trees and a walnut.”

Guide price is £995,000. For more details, email winchester@dnproperty.co.uk.
