Ultimate Primate Safari

Combine gorilla trekking at Governors' new Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge in Rwanda with chimp trekking at Nomad's Greystoke Mahale in Tanzania for the ultimate primate adventure.

The Ultimate Primate Safari brings together two of the world’s most intimate ape encounters for the first time. The new Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge in Rwanda, due to open summer 2007, will afford some of the closest accommodation to nearly half the world's wild Mountain gorilla population on the slopes of the Virunga Volcano range. On the shores of Lake Tanganyika in the Mahale Mountains of western Tanzania, Greystoke Mahale is home to the world’s largest known population of chimpanzees.

Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge is being built by Governors' Camps in partnership with the local community trust. Providing some of the most exclusive accommodation in Rwanda, the lodge comprises five cottages, two suites and one dedicated family cottage. The highlights of a stay here will include a trek to visit five habituated gorilla families.

Over the border in Tanzania, Greystoke Mahale is world renowned as a premier location for chimp research and interaction, with access to approximately 1,000 chimps. There are six stunning two storey ‘bandas’ overlooking Lake Tanganyika, offering a truly tranquil and exclusive experience.

Price from £3,021 per person for a 9 day package. Includes full board accommodation, airport transfers, shared charter Arusha - Mahale – Arusha and flights between Kilimanjaro, Tanzania, and Kigali, Rwanda, with Rwandair. Excludes drinks at Sabyinyo, chimp and gorilla permits and international flights.
