Wine, gastronomy and safari in South Africa

24th September 2009 Print

Native Escapes, specialist operator to Southern Africa, has announced a new 15 day Wine, Gastronomy & Safari itinerary perfect for anyone who enjoys the good things in life.

The self drive tailor made trip starts in Cape Town, perhaps one of the world’s most beautiful cities, with a cosmopolitan atmosphere, lively music scene, some excellent bars and restaurants and stunning beaches. An evening watching the sun set at one of the many fabulous restaurants at the V&A Waterfront after a day exploring allows visitors to literally get their teeth into this vibrant city.

The route travels through the Winelands and along the scenic Route 62 – the longest wine route in the world. Accommodations selected include a Victorian farmstead situated on a Nature Reserve, renowned for its home-grown food and cuisine, and a lodge in a pretty village with a superb reputation for its award winning gourmet masterpieces.

Activities available include mountain biking, canoeing, windsurfing, trout fishing - and an unusual experience on a tractor through fruit orchards for sundowners at the top of a mountain. A day exploring some of the many wine estates for tasting experiences should not be missed - and the vineyards make a fabulous setting for a picnic.

The trip’s highlight is a one day cookery course which will have visitors learning the art of Cape Malay Cuisine, including dishes such as Bobotie, Cape Malay Curries and Venison Pie. A final two nights stay at a luxurious Wine & Country Estate, where the smell of home-baked bread greets guests in the morning and blue-gum honey, herbs, jams, eggs and even the mustard are produced organically on the Estate make a perfect finale to top off a fabulously indulgent fortnight!

The trip is arranged on a tailor made basis: the price for a 16 day trip is £2,810 per person, including flights, luxury accommodation, and vehicle hire.
