Wicked witch is nation’s top leading lady

Elphaba, the green-skinned witch from hit musical Wicked, has been voted the nation’s favourite leading lady in a poll from leading London theatre breaks website Show-and-Stay.co.uk.

The Wicked character came top of the poll with 43% of the votes, while second favourite female character in the survey was Maria from The Sound of Music (20%). Joint third place went to characters from iconic musical movies, Sandy from Grease and Baby from Dirty Dancing, both receiving 11% of the votes. Least desirable ladies were feisty Nancy from Oliver! (6%) and foxy Roxy from Chicago (9%).
