Brits regret careless spending

29th September 2009 Print
With the recession biting hard, over a third of Britains wish they had been more responsible with money, according to those surveyed as part of Simplyhealth's Bothered Britain Report.

The report investigates how attitudes and behaviour have changed in the past year towards money and health related issues, as well as looking at what people are really bothered about at the moment.

When the survey asked what people wished they had bothered to do in the past, 36% stated being "more responsible with money", which topped "taking better care of their health" (27%) and "spending more time with family" (20%). A further 19% of people wished they had invested in their dental care.

Commenting on the findings, Raman Sankaran from Simplyhealth said: "The recession has made people re-evaluate their priorities in life and what is important to them. With job insecurity rife across all industries, it is no surprise that people regret being careless with money, but with people stating that they also wish they had invested in healthcare and dental care, it demonstrates there is a real demand for affordable health insurance in the current climate.

"Investing in healthcare cover does not need to be expensive. Healthcare company Simplyhealth offers a variety of cash plans and dental plans, which start from as little as £2.25 per week. They offer help towards the cost of check-ups, treatment and emergencies, helping people budget for the costs of expected and unexpected healthcare," Raman concludes.

Northerners, it appears have been the most frivolous spenders with over half of the people living in Liverpool (60%) and Glasgow (51%) citing being more responsible with money as their biggest regret. These are closely followed by those from Edinburgh (42%), Norwich (40%) and Manchester (39%).
