Yummy mummy lose their baby tummies in the countryside

Women struggling to lose their baby weight are turning to intensive exercise weeks in the countryside. By booking a week at the FitFarms weight-loss camp, tired mothers are transforming themselves back into yummy mummies.

FitFarms, based in the Peak District and Exmoor, takes bookings from hundreds of women who are finding it difficult to shift the post pregnancy pounds on their own.

“Baby weight can be one of the hardest things to lose,” says Julie Brealy, health manager at the women-only FitFarms. “Looking after a young child means mums never have the time to go to an exercise class or a run.

“For a lot of our guests, a week at FitFarms is the first time they have had time to breathe let alone work out since they have had their baby.”

At FitFarms, guests are trained on new and innovative exercise regimes while enjoying a range of classes from Indian head massage to Tai Chi. The women are also given guidance and advice on nutrition and cookery from French chef Mikael Perret and former nutrition writer Julia Fitzgerald.

Beverley Nothman and Michelle Mercer both met at ante-natal classes while pregnant with their first children. After putting on three stone each both struggled to get back to regain their size 8-10 figures.

“Once we’d had our babies we sat back and waited to get slim again,” says Beverley. “But 18 months and endless diets later we were both still two stone overweight.

During a stay at FitFarms, the two friends focused on getting fit and losing the fat, each finishing the week 7lbs lighter and a dress size smaller.

“When we arrived home everyone raved about how fabulous we looked – Michelle’s brother even thought she’d had a tummy tuck,” says Beverley.

Following FitFarms, Beverley and Michelle continued their healthy lifestyle and have each lost three stone.
