Cruise the Far East in style in 2010

30th November 2009 Print
MS Europa

Sail in style through the East China and Yellow Seas on board the five-star plus MS Europa – the flagship of Hapag-Lloyd Cruises and the top cruise ship in the world according to the 2010 Berlitz Guide to Cruising – with an upgrade offer worth in excess of £1500 per person from specialist cruise agent, The Cruise People.

Guests on this sixteen day cruise in March 2010 will sail from Manila, capital of the Philippines, through a thousand years of history and a continent of architectural contrasts, from the ancient temples, pagodas and palaces of Taiwan, Japan and Korea to the impressive skyscrapers and modern skyline of Shanghai.

In Taiwan, buddhas of all sizes are a magical sight in the temple complex of Fukuangshan on Ilha Formosa, the ‘wonderful island’ while in the capital city of Taipei it would be impossible to overlook the landmark of Taipei 101, still holding onto its title of ‘the world’s tallest completed skyscraper’.

Japan’s Nagasaki Peace Park commemorates the atomic bomb that ended the second world war in 1945, when around one third of the city was destroyed. Two of Nagasaki’s oldest surviving buildings are included on the itinerary: Kofukuji, the oldest temple of the Obaku sect of Buddhism in Japan and nearby Sofukuji – both rare examples of Ming Dynasty architecture.

The heart of the ancient Korean culture continues to beat among the skyscrapers and neon signs of Seoul, the cultural and economic centre of South Korea, where there is the opportunity to visit the secret garden of Biwon at the Changdeokgung Palace, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997.

The cruise ends in Shanghai on the estuary of the Yangtze River – a perfect blend of traditional, modern, western and oriental cultures, where new skyscrapers and old Shikumen Lanes form an impressive skyline.

Departure 7 – 22 March 2010 Manila to Shanghai

Price from £5332 per person with an upgrade from category 0 to a veranda suite, category 4 - cruise only.

MS Europa - With her all-suite accommodation for up to 408 guests, award-winning service and exceptional blend of luxury, spaciousness and intimacy, it’s no surprise that the MS Europa is the only five-star cruise ship in the world to be awarded this rating in the 2010 Berlitz Guide to Cruising and Cruise Ships (for the tenth year running!).

A voyage on the Europa is a journey to high gastronomic adventure and bold culinary exploits. The ship brings together a masterful blend of world-class chefs, a rich and varied menu of haute cuisine, two specialty restaurants featuring fine Italian and Asian dishes and an expert serving staff to fulfil special requests; not to mention the 24-hour service in the privacy of the guest suites.
