Millbrook Resort continues refurbishment programme
Queenstown’s five-star Millbrook Resort is continuing to invest in its high standards of accommodation product with a dedicated refurbishment programme.
Millbrook’s Village Inn rooms are the current focus, where all 51 rooms are to be refurbished with a total investment spend of more than $1.2 million.
Queenstown based company White Interiors has been brought on board to help freshen the Village Inn rooms with elements of modern sophistication, while keeping in tune with Millbrook’s heritage.
To capture the essence of Millbrook, White Interiors have worked with the aim to create an attractive and functional interior while maintaining an old world feel.
“We wanted guests to feel at home so it was essential we kept the provincial feel that Millbrook visitors know and love,” said designer Emma Gould from White Interiors.
“The refurbishment had to fulfil the practical furnishing requirements at a five-star level whilst acknowledging the days of old, which was why we proposed an eclectic design that combined aspects of Millbrook’s past and present.
“Our objective was to create a room that felt as if it had been furnished over time but with a modern twist. We focused on using mostly local and New Zealand made furnishings and giving the highest level of attention to craftsmanship and the details.
“This is seen in elements such as the custom-milled ‘Millbrook Blue’ wool used for the armchairs, the antique brass studding on the headboard and desk chair, and the fact that most pieces in the room are bespoke ”
Furniture makers Willets from Oamaru recycled desks and tables from the old rooms to bring them back to their former glory, Montreux Furniture of Christchurch made a number of pieces, new bathroom tiles came from Christchurch company Metro Flooring and local company Flooring Xtra provided new carpeting throughout.
“We’re thrilled with the results,” said Ms Gould. “The room has an original air and the union of old and new has been wonderfully successful.”
Due to be fully completed by winter 2010, the changes to the interiors of the Village Inns are part of an overall renovation programme at Millbrook in which the luxury accommodation provider is also redecorating its Villas and Villa Suites.
Millbrook Sales and Marketing Director Kim Carpenter said he was sure guests would enjoy the new-look rooms.
“We’re sure the calibre of furnishings and the feel of the rooms will more than meet expectations.”
Overall, Millbrook is investing close to $5million towards the Villa, Villa Suites and Village Inn refurbishments. The two-bedroom Villas and Villa Suite refurbishment costs have been split between individual owners and the resort, and Mr Carpenter said Millbrook fully appreciated the owners’ commitment to further investment.
