The government may have announced an end to the stamp duty holiday after 2009, but leading housebuilder Taylor Wimpey has pledged to continue to cover the cost of the tax for its purchasers on selected homes. The housebuilder hopes the move will further boost recovery in the housing market as well as save buyers thousands of pounds.

The government scheme had made properties under £175,000 temporarily exempt from the duty, but from 1st January 2010 purchasers will have to pay the one per cent tax for properties costing between £125,000 and £250,000. The cost is even greater for larger homes – three per cent on houses priced between £250,000 and £500,000 and four per cent for those over £500,000. Taylor Wimpey Midlands has now said that it will continue to cover the cost of stamp duty on properties under £250,000 at its Bloxham Meadows development in Bloxham.

Anne Wallace, regional sales and marketing director, comments: “The stamp duty holiday was largely seen as a step in the right direction and provided much needed support for many first time buyers particularly in the Midlands where a number of properties are under £175,000. Our scheme will continue to support these purchasers as well as those buying larger houses where the cost of stamp duty is even greater.”

Paying purchasers’ stamp duty is just one of a range of financial and practical initiatives Taylor Wimpey is currently offering to help get people moving. Existing homeowners might like to take advantage of the house builder’s part exchange scheme, which saves them the stress of finding a buyer. Alternatively, Taylor Wimpey’s Easymover* scheme is ideal for anyone who wants a hassle-free move, all for free. A team of pre-selected estate agents will help you find a buyer, usually within six weeks of going on the market, arrange your packing and unpacking and even pick up the fees.

For first time buyers there are a range of options available including Taylor Wimpey’s Deposit Match* scheme. The house builder will match the deposit put down by purchasers in the form of an interest free loan, up to 10% of the property’s value. This additional capital provides first time buyers with access to a wider range of mortgages, more competitive interest rates and reduced monthly payments.
