Guild member celebrates 40 years of Ford Cosworth DFV engines They form the greatest family of racing powerplants ever created, so no wonder Guild member Andrew Noakes’ latest book pays tribute to the Ford-Cosworth DFV engine and its derivatives. After a successful debut in 1967, Keith Duckworth’s masterpiece remained at the pinnacle of motorsport for more than 15 years and won 155 World Championship Grands Prix, among scores of other accolades.

In The Ford Cosworth DFV – The inside story of F1’s greatest engine, Noakes details the entire Formula One career of the DFV series from its conception in 1965, through its dominance of F1 in the 1970s, to its re-emergence in the 1980s in 3.5-litre form. Each chapter is packed with technical detail, anecdotes and interviews, supported by a wealth of archive photographs, many previously unpublished, supported by comprehensive appendices listing every World Championship and Indycar race win.

Speaking of his experience writing the book, Andrew says: "It was fascinating to research and write, because the DFV's era was one of the golden ages of Formula 1. And it gave me a terrific excuse to write about heroes like Clark and Chapman. Delving into Ford's fantastic picture archive at Warley [Brentwood, Essex] was an education in itself - there's a wealth of material there, some of it seeing the light of day for the first time in this book."
