VOSA test station progress disappoints RHA

5th January 2010 Print

Since the closure of the Llandrindod Wells test station on 25th September 2009, only one new Designated Premises (DP) has opened in Newtown some 29 miles away from Llandrindod Wells.

“Whilst we are advised there are others in the pipeline, we do not know when they may become operational”, said RHA Regional Director Mike Farmer.

“The two closest DPs are at Hay-on-Wye and Newport; both 29 miles away from Llandrindod Wells.  This is adding to the costs of local hauliers both in the distance that has to be travelled and the fact that tests at DPs are more expensive than those at VOSA test stations.

The RHA expressed its extreme concern at the time of the closure and continues to be concerned at the lack of progress in setting up suitable alternative testing facilities.

"We were assured at the time of the closure that there would be suitable alternative facilities in place and this is patently not the case”, concluded Mike Farmer.  To say we are disappointed is an understatement and we feel for our members who are being adversely affected by this situation.  We want VOSA to pull out all the stops to ensure there are suitable testing facilities available in mid-Wales"
