If life in the city conjures up images of a concrete jungle, think again! Residents at McCarthy & Stone’s retirement development Austen Court in Winchmore Hill can escape to the country any time they want – just by stepping outside their back door.

The development, which is situated a mile from Southgate town centre, is not only well located to take advantage of the conveniences of city life but also benefits from a natural haven right outside as residents share their back garden with an array of wildlife, including foxes, hedgehogs, squirrels and birds.

The extensive gardens offer a mix of sprawling lawns and neatly landscaped areas boasting a wealth of different plant life, meaning the garden not only appeals to residents at Austen Court, but some smaller inhabitants as well!

Sharon Callcut, sales and marketing manager for McCarthy & Stone, comments: “The garden at Austen Court really is a little oasis. It’s so peaceful that you would never know you were in a city. It is regularly visited by foxes and other wildlife and it is delightful for everyone living at the development.

“As most of McCarthy & Stone purchasers are over 65, we always aim to build developments that have easy access to everyday amenities and transport links. However, we’re not always as fortunate to have gardens like we do at Austen Court. It is ideal for anyone who needs to be centrally located but is still looking for that escape to the country – albeit in their back yard!”

And, for anyone wanting to go a little further afield to enjoy the great outdoors, several large green parks are located nearby, including Oakwood Park and Grovelands Park, offering walks, lakes and sporting facilities.

The development, which is located on Winchmore Hill Road, comprises 37 retirement apartments. Currently there are 13 one bedroom apartments available, each benefiting from a well-thought out design to help residents maintain independence in later life.

Features include 24-hour emergency Careline call points, electrical sockets at a raised height to reduce bending, illuminated light switches, a security entry system, easy grip lever taps in the bathroom and kitchen and energy efficient heating.

Residents at Austen Court can also socialise and relax in the communal lounge and invite family and friends to stay in the development’s guest suite.

Anyone interested in finding out more about the homes and lifestyle on offer at Austen Court can visit the show complex, open Tuesday to Saturday from 10.30am to 5.00pm, or log on to mccarthyandstone.co.uk.
