New website delivers Pilates tuition online

Planning to get fit - again? A new product which might just help you to stick to that New Year’s resolution for once is Vitalflow.tv, a pioneering initiative to provide Pilates led health and fitness tuition via the internet.
Vitalflow has launched a series of downloadable classes for people who want to exercise when and where they choose.
“The next step on from exercise dvds, the online clips are downloadable to a laptop, MP3 player, or mobile phone, and are the perfect way to practise Pilates from the convenience of your home or office at a time that suits you and most importantly, at your own pace,” explains Vitalflow founder Josie McKenlay.
“The video classes can be used as a stand alone solution in a busy life or in conjunction with your regular local classes. Great if you miss a class or go away on holiday and still like to do your Pilates and essential for those of you with back problems who really need to be doing a little bit every day.”
All the videos are performed by Kent based Josie McKenlay, a fully qualified fitness, Pilates and yoga instructor (RSA/YMCA/Pilates Institute) with 25 years experience, with credentials that read like a Michelin guide to the best of British health clubs including David Lloyd, Esporta, Holmes Place, the Roehampton Club and the Bank of England Sports Club. She has been running her own private Pilates courses for the past five years before embarking on her new online venture.
Vitalflow was one of the first fitness sites to offer Pilates video clips online with audio tuition and the new clips are also believed to be a first for the industry in the UK. A series of beginner and improver classes are being offered first, at a cost of US$24.99 (around £20) each, as well as a one off intermediate class for US$4.99 (less than £5).
Said Josie, “There is an increasing demand for an accessible and interactive form of exercise and health regime for those who either do not want to, are unable or can not afford to go to gyms, classes or have private trainers. The Vitalflow concept is to provide the convenience, affordability and privacy of a home health and fitness regime combined with the personal advice and community environment that you can get from a club.
“The credit crunch has stimulated that demand. Job loss often means less exercise, money worries create increased mental stress and many people have had to cancel gym and fitness class subscriptions. An online resource like mine can be the answer for them and others such as mothers with young children or shift workers who want the convenience of a home based workout.
“Pilates is a very safe form of exercise because of the slow pace, the level of concentration required and the small movements involved. It is ideally suited to online tuition where the audio and visual instruction ensures you are doing everything properly and safely. You also don’t have the problem of forgetting what you have been told to do by the doctor, physiotherapist or instructor.”
The Vitalflow website addresses many aspects of nutrition, mental and physical health as well as exercise. The Vitalflow “six minute work out video” has achieved a five star rating on YouTube and attracted over 27,000 views.
Josie concluded saying, “Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is challenging at the best of times but much more difficult when times are hard as gym membership and personal training are seen as luxuries. Our aim is to help people start or return to a healthy routine of exercise and diet by making the information, expertise and motivation as accessible and affordable as possible.”
