Industry website, created a shortlist of popular fleet cars based on some of the top car searches performed on sister website, The Mondeo came out top in the resulting online poll forming a sizeable lead; in total taking 20 per cent of the vote.

In second place, came the BMW 3-Series raking in 14 per cent of the vote followed by the Audi A6 in third, with 13 per cent of the vote.

The Mondeo perhaps came as a surprise winner; it is well known that German cars are very popular within the fleet and contract hire market yet the Mondeo managed to overtake some of the cars which traditionally are seen as dominant within the sector. The Mondeo has undeniable qualities working in its favour however, offering competitive pricing, class-leading safety specifications, low running and whole life costs as well as practical, internal dimensions.

With such a huge range of Mondeo variants, there is a car to suit most needs, from the entry level 1.6 Edge to the recently introduced Mondeo Titanium ECO 2.0. Aimed squarely at company car users, it combined two pressing business needs; improving fuel economy without compromising on specification. This latest edition benefits from Ford’s ECOnetic technolgies, and is available as a hatchback or estate form. In either form, it produces just 139g/km of CO2 and delivers 54.3mpg on a combined cycle.

Spokesperson for, Richard Lawton said:” The Mondeo is a very popular, long-established model, fleets and fleet managers trust in its solid manufacture. Add this to its smart innovations over the year, including the recent addition of the ECOnetic technology and the Mondeo is understandably very popular as a fleet car.

“Its lead in our poll speaks volumes of Ford’s overall popularity among UK fleets and comes someway to explaining why Ford was the UK’s most popular carmaker last year.”
