Redrow to build 'Heritage Collection' style homes in Devizes

Redrow's exciting New Heritage Collection – instantly recognisable housing designs which combine the best of old and new – is set to come to Devizes.

Lee Hawker, head of land for Bristol-based Redrow Homes (South West), said: “It’s an exciting time for Redrow – not only have we completed the purchase of land at Horton Road, Devizes, but we have just launched our New Heritage Collection of premium quality, traditional family homes across the UK.”

The acquisition of the land in Horton Road, from Leda Properties, means Redrow now owns the entire site, which has outline planning approval for up to 172 homes, a care home and office space.

A planning application is being drawn up to fulfil the housing element with properties from Redrow’s new collection and a greater emphasis on detached family homes will reduce the overall density of development.

“We hope to build some 118 New Heritage homes in Devizes, offering house hunters a choice of three and four-bedroom semi-detached and detached properties,” Lee explained.

“The new collection features 34 different homes, that look traditional from the outside, but inside feature the latest statement-making kitchens, bathrooms and good quality fixtures and fittings.”

The New Heritage Collection is influenced by the ‘Arts and Crafts’ era (c1850 – 1915). And just as this movement grew from the desire to bring back the skill and creativity of the individual craftsman and revive the simplicity and honesty in the way buildings and furnishings were made, Redrow has deliberately set out to reintroduce a high degree of individuality to the way its homes look and feel.

Lee said: “Feedback from the majority of our customers tells us that they want a conventional two-storey home, preferably detached, with an easily accessible garage and a garden of their own. They want something that looks traditional, perhaps evocative of the family home they grew up in, but they want it to have modern interiors equipped to meet the demands of 21st century lifestyles.

“In designing this, some of the architectural influences, styles, shapes, colours and textures reflected in the Arts and Crafts movement have been brought right up to date with high-specification interiors styled for modern living.”

Lee added: “Our initial discussions with the local planning authority in Devizes have been positive and we hope to submit a reserved matters application at the end of February. Subject to approval, this will see the phased development of residential properties, a care home and offices. ”

Redrow is currently in talks with a care home operator interested in the site at Devizes.
