The race is on for student accommodation

17th February 2010 Print

Keen students across the city are preparing to queue in the cold this week in order to snap up the most desirable properties in time for the new academic year.

Viewings scheduled by leading Edinburgh property management specialists Cullen Property are already oversubscribed, and Operations Director Steve Coyle expects up to 80 students to be queuing outside some of the most popular traditional flats in areas such as Newington and Marchmont.

“Students are encouraged to sort out their accommodation very early in the year, even though they won’t move in until mid-summer onwards,” he says.

“We expect dozens of students at each flat viewing and many of these flats will more than likely be snapped up before close of business this Friday.”

Cullen Property has witnessed an ongoing rise in demand for high quality, well presented and conveniently located flats in the city centre due to a growing Edinburgh student population. The company will attend the annual student accommodation fair at Edinburgh University on Wednesday (17 February) and the race for accommodation will be on from 9am on Thursday morning (18 February).

Steve Coyle adds: “Students tend to choose flats because of the area they are located in but the quality of the accommodation is becoming more and more important and a well-maintained traditional flat could be let many times over.

“Our track record helps us not only retain students for the duration of their studies but also attract landlords with suitable properties.”

Over 50% of all flats managed by Cullen Property are currently occupied by students. Since the company was founded in 1998, Cullen Property has specialised in sourcing quality properties with optimum rental potential in the student market.
