Credit-crunch busting ski deals

23rd February 2010 Print

Sandwiched between the BAFTA’s and the Oscars, the launch was announced today of sister companies Esprit Ski and Ski Total’s new 2010/11 Privilege Preview Edition brochures, with Managing Director Andy Perrin likening the past, present and future ski seasons to the three parts of a blockbuster cinematic trilogy.

“Looking back at 2008/09” he said, “we had ‘Recession 1: The Perfect Storm’, where the ski market was hit from all sides, by the banking crisis, job insecurity and the collapse in sterling. Tour operators effectively paid skiers to go on holiday last year, with thousands of places sold for less than they actually cost to provide.

“This winter, now halfway through, we’re seeing ‘Recession 2: The Reality Check’, featuring massive capacity cuts across the whole market, and the introduction of our exclusive ‘Crunch-Buster’ deals, designed to keep skiing affordable in these testing times.

“And today we are launching ‘Recession 3: Return Of The Crunch-Busters!’ The tide is slowly but surely turning, but it’s still tough out there, and we remain absolutely committed to giving our early booking guests the best possible deals. So the Crunch-Buster deals are back, bigger and better than ever, with a whole basket of money-saving incentives for skiers booking now for next winter.”

The style of the two brochures also represents a radical change for both Esprit and Ski Total, whose Preview brochures in previous years have been limited to a basic list of new prices. In contrast, the new handy pocket-sized format includes descriptions, photos and prices for every chalet, plus full listings of all the Crunch-Buster offers available in each resort. Perrin noted the change as a key step in making decision-making easier for guests, who now have all the information they need at hand to make informed choices for next winter’s holiday.

Esprit Ski prices start from £952 for a family of four, departing 12 December 2010 to Chalet Arnica in La Rosière. Adult prices with Ski Total meanwhile start from £389 per person on the same date to Chalet La Cognée in Les Gets. Both sample prices include return Stansted-Geneva flights, transfers and seven nights’ chalet accommodation with daily breakfast, plus afternoon tea, children’s high tea and four-course adult evening meals with wine, coffee and chocolates included, six days per week. Flights are also available from Gatwick, Southampton, Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh and, new for 2010/11, Heathrow.
