2009 may have been the worst ever year on record for the Truck market, but Mercedes-Benz has outperformed the competition and gained market share in all segments.

With the UK >6 tonnes market experiencing a shocking decline of 42.6%, Mercedes-Benz Trucks achieved the smallest volume drop compared to its competition, with a reduction of 36.6%.  The brand also recorded its highest level of market share since 2006, enjoying positive growth of 1.3 percentage points to 14.2%.

Mercedes-Benz Truck’s outstanding 2009 performance is further reinforced by the remarkable fact that the brand also grew market share in every Truck segment compared with the overall market picture.

Strong performance in the 18 tonne segment with the Axor and Atego model ranges allowed the brand to increase its market share by 1.7 percentage points to 14.8% overall; and in support was a best-ever result in the four axle rigid segment with the brand increasing its share of market by 4.1 percentage points to 10.6%.

Mercedes-Benz also saw a particularly strong performance from Econic - the municipal specialist vehicle – with London Borough of Camden, Hull County Council and Liverpool City Council all placing orders in 2009.

Sam Whittaker, Truck Sales and Marketing Director said: “Even in the most difficult market conditions, Mercedes-Benz Trucks continues to strive for the best.  The team both at head office and throughout the dealer network work tirelessly to offer affordable trucks, tailored to the exact needs of operators along with a commitment to deliver outstanding levels of customer service and support.”

Ian Jones, Managing Director Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicles added: “The truck market continues to be very difficult for all manufacturers, but even in the face of a severely-depressed market, Mercedes-Benz has delivered an excellent result and proved once again it’s the Truck manufacturer you can really trust.”
